Letter dated Sept. 23, 1997 to Lucia Greer, Casa Chia Library, received from Jack Foisie:

Dear Lucia Greer,
Regarding folksinger Sam Eskin, first may I express my admiration for your tenacious and  successful effort to locate me and find I am above ground.

I fear I can't add anything in the way of enlarging on my long-ago interview with Sam Eskin.  On the San Francisco Chronicle my usual assignments concerned the military and the fledging missile industry of that era.  I was later made a handsome offer by the Los Angeles Times, became its war correspondent in Vietnam and remained overseas for the Los Angeles Times for 20 years as one of its staff foreign correspondents, reporting from the Middle East and South Africa, among other places.  I retired in 1984.

As you can see I still prefer to use a typewriter (I claim I can think better when confronting it) and so my understanding and usage of more modern communications is limited.

Thanks again for your query.  It took me back to what now seems like long ago during my early years in journalism.

                                                                                                Sincerely,
                                                                                                    /s/
                                                                                                Jack Foisie
